Information for Singer Applicants


Criteria

Filene Young Artists:

  •  Perceived career potential
  •  Evidence of secure technique and solid training
  •  Distinctive vocal quality
  •  High level of personal artistry
  •  Readiness to perform carefully selected solo roles in original languages

Studio Artists:

  • Singers will be chosen by audition, and will demonstrate talent, operatic potential, and a stable vocal technique.

 

Repertoire

Operas will be determined based on the strengths of the various voice types heard during the October-November audition tour.

Dates

  • Approximate season dates for Filene Young Artists residencies are mid-May through late August. Not all artists are in residence for the entire period.
  • Approximate season dates for Wolf Trap Opera Studio Artists residencies are late May through late August.

Compensation

All Artists, Fellows, and Interns receive a bi-weekly stipend, including the terms of a standard AGMA soloist contract for those artists cast in any production presented at the Filene Center.

Housing

  • Filene Young Artists and Fellows: Although housing expenses are not included in the compensation package, Wolf Trap Opera assists all Filene Young Artists and Fellows in locating housing with volunteer hosts within reasonable commuting distance. The average housing situation is located seven miles away from our rehearsal and performance facilities.
  •  Wolf Trap Opera Studio Artists: Studio Artists will be housed free-of-charge at a local dormitory. Wolf Trap is unable to assume responsibility for housing spouses, partners, or pets.

Transportation

Access to a car is necessary because there is no public transportation convenient to Wolf Trap.
